Norway’s leading producer responsibility organisation is providing the textile industry with a trusted, competent and future-oriented solution when Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for textiles comes into force on 1 January 2027. NORSIRK is launching Videre Tekstil AS as a new producer responsibility organisation for textiles. In developing the initiative, NORSIRK has joined forces with the textile cluster NF&TA.
"This is a major and important day for us. Videre Tekstil AS combines NORSIRK’s extensive experience in developing and operating nationwide producer responsibility schemes with NF&TA’s unique network, industry expertise and knowledge of textile value chains, product development and circular opportunities," says Stig Ervik, CEO of NORSIRK.
With extensive experience in developing and managing producer responsibility systems, NORSIRK is a key player that challenges both authorities and industry to ensure that producer responsibility becomes a driving force for the circular economy.
According to figures from SINTEF (2025), more than 7,500 companies are part of Norway’s consumer textile value chain, employing over 44,000 people and generating combined annual revenues of approximately NOK 93 billion. Extended Producer Responsibility means that producers and importers of clothing, footwear and other textiles sold in Norway, including online retailers, must finance the collection and treatment of textiles when they become waste.
"More than 105,000 tonnes of new textiles are imported into the Norwegian market every year. This highlights the need for integrated systems that provide oversight, control and efficient management of textile flows. We see NORSIRK as a strong organisation that successfully combines innovation and business development in a structured and effective way," says Linda Refvik, Managing Director of NF&TA.
Under the EPR scheme, producers and brands will be responsible for ensuring that textiles are managed in an environmentally sound manner throughout their entire lifecycle.
"This important work requires systems that function effectively in practice. Videre Tekstil AS is a major part of the solution. We will develop, operate and manage solutions that make it easy for producers and brands to comply with the requirements of the scheme," says Ervik.
Extended Producer Responsibility for textiles will change the way the textile industry designs, manufactures and places products on the market.
"Our systems enable smarter resource use, innovation and new business models. They provide businesses with decision-making support early in the process, allowing choices regarding materials, product construction and design solutions to influence the future pathway of textiles. This is practical and direct support for the circular economy," says Ervik.
Videre Tekstil AS will develop its systems in close collaboration with the textile industry across both Norway and the wider Nordic region, drawing on extensive industry knowledge and experience.
"The textile industry operates through global value chains. Harmonised solutions are therefore essential to ensure efficient operations and business development, and to achieve the intended impact of producer responsibility," says Linda Refvik.
"It is through collaboration with producers, brands and other affected stakeholders that compliance can be achieved effectively. Extended producer responsibility requires close cooperation with the businesses and organisations impacted by the scheme. Videre Tekstil AS will be developed in dialogue with the textile industry across Norway and the Nordic countries. We are already making progress and have established Nordic PRO Solutions, a partnership between five leading producer responsibility organisations in the Nordic region," Ervik explains.
Videre Tekstil AS operates with a clear Nordic perspective, aiming to support harmonised requirements and shared producer responsibility systems across the Nordic countries.
"Responsibility follows the textiles. Videre helps everyone in the value chain make smarter decisions at every stage. When we focus on prevention rather than clean-up, we create new value from textiles, for brands and for the industry as a whole," Ervik concludes.
NORSIRK has nearly 3,000 producer responsibility customers, providing advisory services and practical circular economy solutions. The company has experienced continuous growth for more than 20 years and is the only compliance scheme operator in Norway managing more than ten producer responsibility schemes under one integrated system and administration.
